What exactly does Valet Diving mean, you might be wondering.

At St. George's Caye Resort we pride ourselves on having one of the BEST dive teams in Belize, and perhaps even the world. Not only is the team experienced (over 7000 dives) but they are kind and helpful. If you have dove with us in the past you surely know either Freddy or Jose, our two main dive instructors, and the amazing finesse they demonstrate in their craft.

Freddy and Jose introduced us to what we now call "Valet Diving". Valet, by the way, is a French word referring to a man's personal servant.** Now while Freddy and Jose cannot be your personal servants for your entire stay at St. George's, they will be your personal dive assistants for your entire stay! Our dedicated dive team will rinse, carry to and from the boat, and safely store all of your gear. Every morning each diver's gear will be organized, clean and on the boat ready to go. All YOU need to do is show up ready to get wet! It is that easy. Clean your own mask, or have it done for you. Need fresh water on board to rinse your camera equipment? No problem! And underneath your seat on the boat will be a plastic tub for your shoes, sunglasses, phones or whatever small things you brought along. No more looking through each other's stuff wondering where your sunglasses ran off to or why you only have one shoe. You will also find plenty of water to hydrate and, my personal favorite, cookies and fruit for a light snack between and after dives.

Traveling to Lighthouse Reef or Blue Hole? Our Valet Dive Team also coordinates with our kitchen staff to prepare and bring along breakfast and lunch! Special drink requests while on your dive trip? Simply let the team know what you want.

How can we provide such a high level of quality service to our divers? You might ask. This too is simple. We cater to divers, on average 6 per dive, and dive groups of no more than about 25. Keeping the numbers small ensures quality of care for you, your dive equipment, and your dive experience.

**{SIDE NOTE: Did you know a "batman" is a soldier or airman assigned to a commissioned officer as a personal servant?}

Another summer season is upon us already! Are you planning your trip to Belize and wondering what to pack? We surveyed our staff, who has collectively over 50 years of experience, asking them what items they found most helpful to those traveling to Belize. Here are the St. George's Caye Resort Staff top 5 picks.

  1. PACK TOWL :: Personal Towels

Hands down our favorite and most versatile item - these very small and thin towels are highly absorbent and dry fast. Excellent for traveling, they pack into any size bag. Some ways we have used them, other than the obvious like drying off after a shower or swim- is to cover public seats when in the airport, clean your hands when no facilities are available, or cover coughs or sneezes. They wash easily in any sink, wring out most of the water and are ready to use again. By your side at the beach or pool, these little guys are handy for wiping sweat or drying your hands before you read your magazine. Diving? Perfect companion to your dive gear. Hiking in the jungle? Take one of these with you!

     2.  RASH GUARD ::

Rash guards are a must for snorkeling or diving. While we do have wet suits available for your convenience our dive team highly recommends bringing along a personal rash guard. Available in many brands, colors and sizes -find one that suits you! Rash guards protect from, well, rashes -caused by dive gear or bumping coral. They also protect from sun damage while snorkeling. We often forget that while face down in the water for an hour, our backs are at the surface getting burned. Jose, our veteran dive instructor, prefers the Lands End men's (also available for women) half zip pullover rash guard. The half zipper makes putting on and taking these off much easier.

     3.  FISHING SHIRT ::

Fishing shirts come from several different manufacturers including Magellan (Academy.com), Columbia and Under Armor. Fishing shirts are certainly not just for fishing! Take our word for it and pick one up before your trip! These shirts are designed to cover and protect your skin without the bulk. They include pockets that zip -so nothing falls out into the water, collars that adjust to cover the back of the neck, sleeves that roll and tie. Most come with sun protection of SPF 40+ to ensure you don't get burned. Throw one in your bag for a swimsuit cover or jungle companion. These shirt pack easily without any added bulk.

    4.  BUG SPRAY W DEET ::

When we asked our experienced staff about bug spray they unanimously agreed: if you want to without a doubt keep the bugs off your skin you must use bug repellant with DEET. I know this day and age with all the information we have about the toxicity of chemicals like DEET causes us to refrain from buying them. However, nothing can ruin a day trip to the jungle or nice walk on the beach like mosquitoes or sand flies biting at you. Whatever you choose, make sure to bring along your favorite repellant just in case the bugs

are out.

>>STAFF PICKS FAVORITE BRAND: OFF Outdoors or Deep Woods Repellant w/ DEET. Found at any local drugstore.

    5.  HEMP OIL ::

100% Belizean pure hemp oil Sold only in Belize, this pure hemp oil is grown, harvested, and bottled in the jungle of northern Belize. The uses of this little bottle include moisturizing, lip balm, after sun care, bug bites, rashes, or razor burn. Ask for a bottle upon check-in and discover why the locals love and recommend this product. Available in the office for $5 USD.

December 2013 St. George's Caye Resort had the honor of hosting a small cast and crew from Motion TV*. The men spent four days exploring, discovering and ulimately filming a beautiful episode featuring Belize's many attractions. The episode is due to air this week on February 6th and we are very excited to share it with you.

Motion-4Motion-3

The Belize episode of Motion TV features a "guest hiker" - Shiloh Janes from New York - who is a viewer and fan of the show chosen to experience something he'd never done before; to take him out of his daily routine of too much work. But really, the entire crew seemed to have experienced a great world of many new experiences. From the banks of historic St. George's Caye to the Lamanai Mayan Ruins to the depths of the underwater world - new possibilities abound as Barry and Cornell take the crew to see Belize!

CHECK OUT THE TEASER VIDEO:

All of us at St. George's Caye Resort thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the cast and crew. A first class group of men whom we will remain friends with for years to come. We have had the pleasure of other television crews and find most boring and disenchanting. Greg, David and Shiloh are authentic and no parts of this show are fake. It is a refreshingly honest gem of television suitable for your entire family. Not to mention it shows the diverse and friendly country Belize trurly is! :)

The inspiring episode reminds us all how important it is to take time out to explore our amazing world. It reminds us that work and money are not everything. And it leaves you wanting to go outside to re-discover the earth around you.

Join us in supporting Belize and healthy, authentic living by watching and sharing the episode with your friends and family!

Watch online at your convinience by clicking HERE - As soon as they release the episode it will be available to view.
Show airs on The Live Well Network this Thursday, Feb 6th 8/7central.
