Scholarships for Belize Higher Education
One of the ways we show our gratitude and reinvest in Belize is through educational scholarships for students who would not be able to attend school otherwise.
In 2013-14 we sponsored one young lady - paying her school tuition, books, transportation and food - allowing her to attend high school. Many students in Belize stop attending school in 6th form (or 8th grade) because high school fees and books are often too expensive for families to afford. All money to support her was given by the staff of St. George's and matched in donations by the management and owner.

In 2014-15 the staff donated enough money out of their own pockets to sponsor FOUR students! This is very exciting! It touched the staff members to see how the seemingly small pieces of their paycheck added up in a way that could change the lives of children from their villages.
This school year, 2015-2016 we are thrilled to let you know that SIX students are now being supported by our scholarship program. Over $14,000 Belize dollars was contributed - every member of our staff chose to participate! These 6 students are all currently enrolled in school, learning and thriving. How fabulous is that! It may seem like a small number - but imagine how these six students lives are being changed by the opportunity to go to school instead of having to enter the workforce at the ages of 12 and 13.
As a reward for our scholarship recipients, on August 23 Cap'n Ron and the staff hosted the four students and their families for a day on the island. For some this was their first time seeing the ocean. In addition to a nice meal on the beach under the almond tree, there was time to kayak around the island and visit the small St. George's Caye Aquarium. It was a memorable and eye opening experience for the students and their families.
All scholarship recipients are chosen by our staff's elected Scholarship Committee - a small group of seasoned team members. They communicate with school principals, parents and are aware of needs within their communities. The selection process considers need, attendance and grades before choosing. Unfortunately some students are left out.
Why are we sharing this with you?
When you stay at St. George's Caye Resort we want you to know you are not only experiencing a beautiful vacation on a private island - you are also supporting many local families. It is because of you, our guests, that these programs are possible! It also empowers our staff to do the best job they can serving you - knowing the cycle of giving will flow through them. They pass on their enthusiasm and authentic desire to create a great vacation to you AND they get to pass on some of their financial reward to others in need. And we wanted you to know!
Thank you!
Its costs roughly $1500 US dollars ($3000 Belize Dollars) to completely sponsor a student - covering tuition, books, transportation, uniforms and food - if the belly isn't full the mind isn't active! If you would like to directly help us sponsor more children please let us know! Contact Cap'n Ron at
