With easy access to the mainland there are so many combinations of adventures, cultural immersions and ways to build memories to last a lifetime. Check out just some of what awaits you at the island!

Explore the culture of Belize - Travel by boat across the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, going past nearby Caye Chapel and Caye Caulker, to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Spend the morning on a guided snorkeling and/or diving adventure at two popular sites, Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. (For guests who do not want to snorkel or dive, you have the full day to explore Ambergris Caye.) Then we venture back to San Pedro for lunch at the restaurant of your choice (we can provide recommendations) and an afternoon of shopping and visiting galleries, gift shops, and beach bars/restaurants, before returning to St. George's with plenty of time to unwind and freshen up before dinner.

Try SCUBA or Sink in Deep

St. George's Caye has been a dive destination for decades, offering some of the best SCUBA diving in Belize. With no other dive resorts in the area, the nearby dive sites are pristine, healthy, and almost always free of other divers. The coral reef system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as sea turtles, dolphins, spotted eagle rays, and numerous invertebrates. You can dive in the morning, return for lunch, and dive again in the afternoon – combining the benefits of a live-aboard dive trip with the comforts and service of a private island resort.

IMG_5573 Let's vote to speed up time!

For the first time in history, we want to SPEED UP "Island Time"!

Let us explain... Island time is what our guests come to us to find; slower pace, less attention to time and a chance to completely relax.

Well all of that is extremely important for our visitors, we work on a different schedule and mindset so that guests enjoy this time of complete ease. We look forward to the joy of being day-makers, for anticipating things guests' may not even know they would like, and for going above and beyond to make an extra special occasion, even more special. And, we can't do that if you're not here...

So, to that end, we vote to speed up time so you can come to the island very soon! We are eagerly awaiting our Captain's Club guests return, and so excited to welcome our new friends with a rum punch and a smile.

In the meantime, please enjoy your very own virtual tour of the island. Ms. Jahnene will greet you with your complimentary rum punch after your short transfer to the island, and here, takes you on a tour of St. George's Caye Resort.

History is Rich at St. George's Caye - By Ian Pearce

Ian-Pearce---Tarpon-Fishing---St.-Georges-Caye-Resort---Belize Tarpon Fishing - St. George's Caye Resort - Belize

We are so grateful for the outpouring of comments on our posts, responses to our newsletters and love we are getting from our valued guest family in this time. When Ian Pearce, long time guest of St. George's Caye Resort reached out to let us know his fish caught recently in Belize, would make for a good "my fish was this big" story, we asked him to recount some of the rich history of his family and this special place. This is an incredible story, and one we hope to continue with Ian, Commodore, and Deena for years to come! Happy Birthday, Commodore, although we can't celebrate with you in person, we are with you in island spirit! Cheers to your quick return!

By: Ian Pearce

Back in 1881 my great-grandfather Sydney Cuthbert, who came to British Honduras from Edinburgh Scotland, purchased the site where St. George's Caye Resort now stands. He and his wife (my great-grandmother), Amy Jane Simpson, from Aberdeen Scotland, would spend many a bright summer day enjoying the beautiful weather and sunshine in their two-story house on stilts. Above the second story, Sydney built a tower that my great-grandmother would use to hang a lantern to help him navigate his steamboat back from Belize to the Caye at night. So much history and happenchance has happened for my family at St. George's Caye.

Fast forward, as a kid, my family would spend summers on the Caye, but we had to rent a house up on the north end towards Quacka Head. I started to Dive the reef near St. George's Caye in 1976.

In the mid-1980's a man named Fred Good bought the 5 and a half lots that my grandmother owned from her and filled in the cuts with a dredge and built St. George's Lodge. He owned and operated it for around 30 years. During that time, we enjoyed staying and playing in and around the Lodge. My father, who was a dentist in Houston, eventually bought and kept a boat, the BelTexIan, in Belize. We would frequently visit Fred on our Belize vacations and enjoy dining and diving with Fred and Jose at the Lodge.

Later after the Lodge changed hands, it became St. George's Caye Resort. We have had the great pleasure of meeting the new owner Tim and all the great staff (Barry, Janeene, Oliver, Jose, Freddie, Andy, Leo, Edison, Herber, Cornell, Wilbur and the rest of the gang). We have been welcomed by them and made to feel like family at the Caye. My dad (we all call him Commodore), my girlfriend Deena, my children (Clara & Leah) and I have been guests at the Resort on numerous occasions and love all the great activities and new friends we meet there.

Commodore, Deena and I were due to spend a week at the Resort for his 94th birthday, but the Coronavirus pandemic made us stay in Austin instead. We are thankful that we are all healthy and very bored. We would love to be hanging out with our friends at SGCR diving, snorkeling, tarpon fishing, sailing, relaxing and eating the wonderful meals there, but it will have to wait. I know it will all be there waiting for us as soon as this craziness is over, hopefully, sooner than later. Until then, we will shelter in place and practice social distancing so that we all remain well and ready for our next Belize adventure.

________________

Again, thank you Ian, Commodore and Deena for your return trips, sharing your family story with us! Sending you and yours warm island vibes until you return!

Sincerely,

Your St. George's Caye Resort team

Why you need an Unplugged Belize Vacation in the New Year

Belize-island-vacation-by-the-pool Belize Island Time

What exactly is an unplugged vacation? Imagine time minus television, computers, iPads and phones, time focused on people - where you literally unplug yourself from sensory overload! We challenge you to get away from the daily grind, to reconnect, to refresh.

Most of us are addicted to electronics and don't even realize it. Ask yourself, when is the last time I went to bed without watching the news? Or checking email or Facebook - one last time? So why not take an intentional break from the hum of daily life?

Here are 4 Reasons you need to consider it:

- Your brain needs to detox. There is a gland in your brain called the pineal gland. Its responsible for regulating melatonin, which helps you to relax and get to sleep. Your computer screen overstimulates the pineal gland. When it’s overstimulated the melatonin in your body is suppressed and your sleep and rest periods will be automatically more difficult. Give your brain a break.

- Memories are not made staring into screens! Memories are made laughing over meals or chasing hermit crabs on the shore. Memories are made exploring ancient Mayan Ruins or hiking through jungles. Memories are made in private cabanas and staring into one another's eyes. You will return home with unforgettable memories.

- Unplugged vacations encourage movement. Our bodies and our minds are happier when we move. When there is no television to watch you're more likely to take a leisurely walk go for a swim in the salty sea. You are more likely to be more active.

- Because at the end of the day - people matter most. Reconnect with your partner. Or your best friend. Or yourself! Cultivating healthy relationships is difficult when we are constantly distracted my text messages and emails. When is the last time you sat quietly and focused on yourself or your partner to the exclusion of everything else for days at a time? It will change your perspective and allow for more meaningful relationships.

Snorkel in Belize at our Beach Resort

St. George's Caye Resort in Belize is perfectly designed to help you disconnect with the noise of your busy life. And reconnect with yourself. We make it possible for you to check your email - just not inside your private Cabana. No televisions are to be found and most people won't get a cell phone signal. But no need to worry! We are not totally off the grid. Just enough to allow you to relax and experience the magic.

12 private thatched roof cabanas nestled on a secluded tropical island. No roads. No stores. Just peaceful nature surrounds you. A place you can truly unwind, let loose, and relax. You will find yourself lost in the abundance of fish when your snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef. It will remind you how big and beautiful the world is and how your forgot you loved to travel.

We invite you to experience the magic of an unplugged private island getaway at St. George's Caye Resort - The Gem of Belize. Getting here is easy - Leaving is hard!
